Sports Field Maintenance

Sports field maintenance is important, not only does a good sports field have great look to it, but it's also great for the players. Fans and players alike enjoy walking into a facility that has great green turf and this means that you'll get more competitors as well as more fans.

It can be all according to what you're starting with, if you are starting with a poor field you may need to purchase new turf completely. But if you're just maintaining a sports field that is already in good condition you're basically have to mow, irrigate, fertilize, and make sure the roots don't become compacted by playing on the same areas frequently.

Your first step is going to be making sure that your soil is an optimum condition. Soil for fertility, or fertilizers, according to your climate needs to be done approximately 4 times a year. Fertilizing and keeping the soil fertility in optimum condition is the type of maintenance you're going to need, and this is going to include testing for pH values on a constant basis. You may find that complete soil sampling every year or every other year is a great way to test the soil and making sure you're getting the proper nutrients back into the soil a regular basis but an inexpensive pH test can be done more frequently.

Mowing is a bit of science, and you run with the one third rule of cuts, and this means that you don't cut more than one third of the top of your field. According to the type of grass you have, this may mean constant mowing and possibly even mowing with reel mowers. The best time to know is when you have 50% growth, as this will allow the turf to maintain density, and yet keep stress to a minimum on the plants themselves.

While pests do not normally become a great problem in sports athletic turf fields, it's because of constant attention. If you continually monitor your sports field for weeds or other types of pests, you're going to wind up using less high-tech equipment and pesticides in the long run reducing your cost.

Watering is all according to your climate, but it's been well researched that watering in cycles is best for the actual plants. This means you need to soak it deep into the ground approximately four to five inches, so the your irrigation actually reaches the roots.

Remember, when it comes to sports field maintenance that water and aeration as well as soil fertility is what it's going to take to keep your sports field looking good. A regular maintenance schedule according to the weather, in other words, according to the growing schedule can keep your sports field looking great and inviting contestants and fans alike.
