Synthetic Turf Maintenance

If you have opted to save money and resources with synthetic turf, you'll also be learning all about synthetic turf maintenance. You will need to learn about brooming, sweeping, washing, and protecting.

Of course protection is your first defense with your waterless turf, this means protecting your turf from leaves, twigs, and other blown around matter such as garbage. You can do this with either a hedge or a tight woven fence. This will make caring for your artificial grass a lot easier and is well worth the money spent to take an offensive approach to synthetic turf care.

If you already have a fence or hedge then perhaps you won't have to vacuum your turf as frequently but brooming and sweeping is mandatory. If you do not sweep and broom on a regular basis, you infill will eventually fill up your turf causing the whole area to become hard and slippery. It will also look bad as some parts of your lawn will actually curl under and eventually be buried through dirt and grime that no fence can keep out.

You will also need to wash your synthetic lawn a few times a year according to your climate, rainfall and weather. This is a deep cleaning with special detergents and according to the age of your synthetic turf you may also be applying fabric softener type applications in order to keep static cling and small electric shocks from happening. This deep cleaning is vital, while your synthetic turf has been protected from ultra violet rays, other chemicals floating in the air and settling can damage your lawn.

You may also need to use a decompactor on your lawn, this keeps the turf from bending and becoming flattened throughout and especially through heavy traffic areas.

You will know it's time to replace your synthetic turf when you notice that you are having to broom and sweep more frequently in order to keep your turf standing upright. You may also see excessive wear in paths or play areas. Make sure you move your play areas on a frequent basis and you won't have one area that is more worn than others but remember, with proper synthetic lawn or turf maintenance you can expect to get more than 10 years our of your lawn according to what you use it for.

Your waterless turf will last a very long time if you care for it properly with regular synthetic turf maintenance such as sweeping, brooming, and cleaning as well as being proactive concerning protection of your synthetic lawn. There is no doubt that not only will you save money with proper maintenance but the actual maintenance cost are slim compared to maintaining a planted lawn or turf.
